A heartbreaking tragedy has marred the start of the 2024 CrossFit Games in Fort Worth, Texas. On Thursday, 28-year-old Serbian athlete Lazar Dukic tragically passed away during the swimming portion of the competition.
Unforeseen Event Cuts Short Promising Career
The incident occurred in Marine Creek Lake as participants embarked on the grueling individual event, which included a 35-mile run followed by an 800-meter swim. According to officials, Dukic experienced a medical event during the swim and was pulled from the water by fellow athletes and emergency responders.
Despite immediate medical attention, Dukic could not be revived. The CrossFit community is reeling in shock and grief over the loss of such a promising and talented athlete.
