Large fire reported at historic London venue

Over 100 firefighters tackle blaze at Somerset House

No reports of any injuries as 15 fire engines battle fire on Strand

Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines have been called to tackle a blaze at the iconic Somerset House in London on Saturday evening.

Thick black smoke was seen billowing out of the building with orange flames leaping from the roof.

The London Fire Brigade confirmed that 15 fire engines and around 100 firefighters have been called to the scene on the Strand.

There are currently no reports of any injuries with the cause of the fire still unknown.

The building which houses the Courtauld Gallery and the Gilbert Collection is understood to have been evacuated.

There were no reports of any injuries at 8.15pm although the building is understood to have been evacuated.
